Hi Therra. You don’t know me from Adam, but I’m a long time friend of Lisa Cohen who shares your FB posts. I lost my inseparable wife of 38 years just 54 days ago. It was an alchemical marriage of opposites that performed like a fusion reactor of love. When I saw references to your loss in a post, I sought you out on Substack. I wanted to resonate with a fellow griever. My journey, though brief, has been uniquely my own, as it should. Three things have helped me: 1. I had Karen’s blessing and encouragement to spread my wings, 2. I came to a place where I could see that it was her time even if it seemed like the universe was unjust and made a horrible mistake, and 3. I actively engaged the grief for the first month - literally got ahead of it through writing, talking, creating, clearing, doing stuff with people every day. It helped that intuitive people reported that she’s “still around” - if you can go there.
I also write for a living and appreciate the rollercoaster of loving rage in your writing. I know how important it is to be recognized and read - so, I put 50 bucks in the tip jar and tip my hat to your muse.
This is beautiful. My Dad has been gone for just over 2 weeks. He left after living a long life, so I know that my grief is very different than yours. But still, some of your words can and do help me. I am going to send this to my father's widow, who I believe did grow to love him as the years of their marriage went by. It may help her. Thank you.
