Columbus Day, Indigenous Peoples Day, and sharks.

We officially don't have Columbus Day in New Mexico and it’s not even a question that’s up for grabs. It’s Indigenous Peoples Day and I’m glad for it. Some states are sticking with Columbus Day and some states celebrate both, although I’m not sure how that works.

Years ago I was at a beach on Columbus Day, with my Native American husband John. We’d been living in an RV since Hurricane Katrina turned our world upside down. That August we had left Atlanta for two weeks for a summer vacation. We were gone for four years. But that’s another story.
